My family is about to buy a Panasonic Plasma Television. The largest size we can fit would be a 46 inch screen. We are debating between the S series and G series of Panasonic’s plasma TVs because of cost. We would also like to add a blu ray player and possibly surround sound to the package eventually. Our budget is around 1000 but we could go over (not excessively however.) Is the extra price of the G series worth the benifits ( THX, Greater contrast, internet capabilities?) We would take advantage of the pandora and Netflix if we had it, but we realize there are also blu ray players that do so. So I guess the main thing is the picture, is the picture worth the extra price?
Thanks

I just bought a samsung blu ray player today (model BD-C6500) it sounded great, wireless internet, blah blah blah. So I get home and the set up looks simple. All you have to do is plug the hdmi cable from the blu ray player into the back of my hdtv ( its a 42" sharp flat panel hdtv- fairly new) guess what? it doesnt work. I decided to see if it was the blu ray player itself so I plugged in the regular a/v cables (red, white, yellow) and that works fine. so why wouldnt the hdmi cable work? I have an hd tv that works great, i know its not the tv. Before returning I figured Id see if anyone had any other suggestions. ( I even bought a new high speed hdmi cable)

Basically my set up is as follows:
Sony Bravia TV
Apple TV
Sky+ HD
Sony Blu-Ray player
We have recently decorated the living room and would like surround sound, preferably with wireless speakers as we don’t want to cut holes in the carpet or remove the wallpaper.
I would like to know what would be needed to be able to use these external wireless speakers so when watching a movie on Apple TV or Sky+HD, it would be in surround sound.
Any help, prices, models, advice on what would be needed to create this option of surround sound for all devices would be very much appreciated
Thanks

When using the HD-MI cable it works for a short time (about 10 seconds) with a good picture then the tv screen goes green then black and displays "no signal". The picture will come back after a few seconds then it starts all over again. I`ve tried every video setting on the player and tv and tried all the HD-MI ports on the tv.
It works fine with component video leads (RGB) so its ok but its just a bit annoying as the HD-MI cable was so bloody expensive
Blu ray player : Samsung BD-P1580
TV: LG 42" 1080p scarlet (cant remember the model number and cant find the manual sorry )
HD-MI cable : Belkin PureAV 1 meter HD-MI Cable (HD-MI 1.3 1080p gold plated silver soldered bla bla bla)

I have a Panasonic Plasma 1080p TV and Blu Ray player. Can someone help me figure out how do I set this up so that I see the best possible HD picture? Right now it seems that I am not receiving HD picture, even though I have both of these plus I rent Blu Ray movies.

I love the way the HD cable channels look on it. Most regular channels have an HD channel.. so it works great.
We dont have a blu-ray player yet.. and we have soo many regular DVD’s.. I cant justify replacing all of them with blu-ray discs at a later point- just too expensive.
The regular DVDs look like crap on the new TV.. picture quality was better on the old TV. We are using the old DVD player tho.. will the picture be better with regular DVDs when we do invest in a blu-ray player (or rather, the PS3, since that is what my BF has his heart set on)?
Paul, no salesperson was involved when the TV was chosen. TV was purchased at walmart.. very few of the employees there know jack squat about electronics.

So i already had a Sanyo 1080p 42” tv and with my xbox elite and hdmi the games look scary sharp.. so clear.. the blacks are black ( not purple-ish) anyway, so i finally decided to buy a blu-ray player.. a samsung bd-p1590. Here is my question. I bought a 10 dollar movie.. called "28 days later" the movie came out a couple of years ago.. anyway i wanted to see it in HD so i bought along with the blu-ray player.. i set the settings to 1080p, etc.. and noticed 24fps mode! I enabled it, and proceeded to watch the movie.. and noticed flickering on the bottom of the screen and it was annoying as he##!!! So i disabled 24fps.. and its ok now. Is the movie not able to play in that mode?? Or is my tv not capable?? I hate the fact that i would have to buy another hdtv, i mean its like a year and half old! So what gives with the flickering within that mode.. besides the flicker, the movie did not play any smoother than a regular dvd.. im waiting on a new blu-ray coming in from netflix that is new, and perhaps i can compare it since its new and not some old re-mastered movie.. any advice on what i should do, settings?? Is it the tv? or perhaps the movie i purchased was not the best to experience first hand?
I would like to note with this same tv, i did own a HD-DVD player from Xbox, and the quality was waaay better than this! I dont see how though..
oh and "28 days later" was a blu-ray disc.
Yes im using HDMI.. i wouldn’t settle for less.

SO i just bought a really nice 32" LCD flat panel for my bedroom, and honestly, even though it’s not that big, it looks HUGE in my room and i love watching movies on it…they look 50x bigger and it feels more like im in the cinema. My tv is an RCA 720p LCD HDTV, but when i read the specifications it says that the compatible input formats are 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i. I don’t have a blu ray player yet, i just have a standard dvd player but it can upscale my DVD’s to HD (1080p) quality via my HDMI cable. Also, I have the resolution on my DVD player set to 1080p. Since my TV is only 720p, and my dvd player is putting out 1080p, how does that work? Am i really getting HD picture? When i press the ‘info’ button on my tv when im watching a dvd it tells me its in 1080p so im really confused. I don’t see how a 720p tv can play 1080p picture. I really want to get a blu ray player soon, but I don’t know if it will make a difference. Do you think it will? Thanks!

Ok so I keep hearing about all of this blu ray and hd dvd stuff. I don’t have a hd or blu ray player nor do i have a hdtv. basically i’m a poor college student. anyway my question now that they dropped the hd dvd does that mean all dvd’s are gone or just the hd ones. i don’t buy a lot of movies…i basically buy the tv box sets and saw that the blu ray ones are like 70-100 bucks which is ridiculous in my opinion since i never buy them unless they are on sale for 20 or less. basically i’d really hate it if they only came out on blu ray now.
