Guitar Hero 3 Lag Calibration Bug (with X-Plorer)
WORKAROUND!… The latest patch update over Xbox Live does *NOT* fix this bug, but it does introduce a new feature in the Lag Calibration screen which allows us gamers to easily work around the problem. That is: Separate Audio and Video calibration settings. Not only that, but you now can adjust these values manually instead of having to strum 11 times in a slow paced calibration sequence. So, here’s how to use the workaround for those of us with high audio lag calibration and low video lag calibration. For this example, take 150ms as your Audio setting, and 0ms as you Video setting. When practicing on Full Speed, or playing the game normally, use the normal 150ms. When playing in practice, adjust your Audio setting to the following: Full Speed: 150ms Slow: 125ms Slower: 100ms Slowest: 75ms Here’s the formula: Slowest is exactly 1/2 speed of Full Speed, so cut your Audio calibration value in 1/2. 150ms / 2 = 75ms. for Slow and Slower, just split the difference… 1/3 of the way between the Slowest value and the Full Speed value. So that gives increments of 25ms in my example: 75ms, 100ms, 125ms, 150ms. The bug here is that we should not have to adjust our lag settings PER SPEED IN PRACTICE MODE. Lag settings are for our Audio/Video equipment and should not change just because we’re in practice mode. Guitar Hero 2 does not have this bug. If you have a high lag setting, you can play “in time” no matter what the practice mode speed without having to change your calibration …

how did u play it with x plorer i thought your pinky was broken
man, just calibrate in audio 47ms and in video 0ms tell me if it works?
because i just got my hdtv today and i put it like this and it works perfect.
this is why normal tv’s are best in gh they dont need to be calibrated
i got it on ps3 and there is exactly the same problem i just cannot calibrate it
I have the Xplorer for the 360 and it freezes like crazy im still waitin for an update!
that almost gets it i think.. i just want the damn thing ta work right lol
i think you have to get it “just right” in normal non-practice mode, or Full Speed practice mode, then once you have that value, you can use the “formula” in my description to the right for how to set it for each of the slow practice speeds… but let me know if I’m still missign your point…
well. what im saying is that when i calibrated the system it put it at 50-60. i know thats not right so idid it my self, buts its not right. do i need to slow it down in practice to get it just right?
you’re saying 50ms (or 60ms) is your normal Full Speed setting that works for you during normal play and Full Speed practice? If so, then when you practice at “Slowest”, you will need your lag adjusted to 1/2x the value. So 50ms –> 25ms. Or 60ms –> 30ms. More details in the “about this video” –>
i need help. i have a PS3 nad everythime i set the calibration it sets it to about 50-60 off. I know this isn’t right, becasue i have changed it manually and seems to help..how can i find the actually lag point? super slow mode?
Too bad PS2 doesn’t have internet support. =P
They’re looking into it. I’ve been in contact with a few different people who have the power to make a difference. So, it’s in their hands. For now, the workaround in the vid description to the right makes this bug more tolerable.
Go buy a PS3 and play with the other 5 kids who have one, faggot. Xbox 360 owns you.
This is because Activision/Neversoft suck and put a lot of unfixed bugs in the game.
Sometimes going into practice from failing a song, you won’t hear the “guitar” part. Now, I put the guitar in quotes because…
THEY FUCKING MAPPED KEYBOARD NOTES.
HARMONIX WOULD NEVER DO THAT.
Plus, loading is a B, 4 note chords don’t play sound when entering cheats, even though the cheat system is stupid, it still saves if you put in unlock everything.
i love the sound of the strum bar!
I agree, you’re smart.
na, im smart
You’re pathetic.
wow, you actually played with a guitar controller
haha.
Thats y you never buy or play a 360
In other words, I have a workaround now that they have added the manual calibration feature. Still, sure does give the impression of sloppy Neversoft coding. I’ve since reported other bugs re: sound effects are off beat since the last GH3 title update. It seems nobody there notices, or fully tests the lag calibration feature. Harmonix had no such bugs in GH2!
heh, thanks! It’s my opinion that Neversoft or the Activision QA department have bigger fish to fry. My video proves the bug. They have the link to it. They know it’s real. BUT… I’m not so concerned anymore since when I practice on Slowest, I just manually set my Audio lag calibration to 1/2 of the value I use at Full Speed, and it works perfectly.
The lastest response from Activision, basically they deny the existence of a problem:

Hello,
I have not noticed this issue here.

OK just wondering.
I recently noticed the same thing (Wii version standard guitar). I used to have a CRT and it worked fine at normal and slow speeds. I then got an HDTV (Samsung Plasma) and I couldn’t complete any songs. I turned off all the tv settings and put it in game mode, still had a lag which I calibrated to 80ms. Plays fine at normal speed but the slow speeds are screwed. I’ve written to Activision and I’ll post any reply I get here.
